Zero Balancing Therapy
Zero Balancing (ZB) is a gentle, hands-on bodywork therapy developed by Dr. Fritz Frederick Smith that combines principles of osteopathy, massage, and traditional Chinese medicine. It focuses on the relationship between the body’s physical structure, particularly the bones and joints, and its overall sense of balance and well-being. Influenced by osteopathic principles, Zero Balancing views the body as an interconnected whole, recognizing that tension or restricted movement in one area can affect posture, mobility, and comfort elsewhere.
Using gentle pressure, traction, and sustained touch at specific points called fulcrums, practitioners aim to release tension, reduce restrictive holding patterns, and encourage more comfortable movement. Rather than focusing primarily on muscles, Zero Balancing works with the relationship between the skeletal structure and surrounding tissues, with the intention of supporting postural balance, mobility, and body awareness.
Sessions are typically performed with the client fully clothed, using precise, gentle movements without forceful manipulation. Clients may experience relaxation, improved comfort, and a greater sense of physical balance. While Zero Balancing draws on osteopathic principles of the connection between structure and function, its specific therapeutic benefits require further scientific research. It is best understood as a complementary wellness practice rather than a replacement for medical care.
